Ongoing project in Calabria

Since the beginning of 2016 Simone Donati has started a new project on the hinterland of Calabria region, in Southern Italy, its landscape and the people who inhabit it, in connection with rituals, social relations, traditions and identity of this territory that since the 20th century is characterized by a high percentage of depopulation due to emigration.

Nocera Terinese (CZ)
San Basile (CS)

In this work, landscape photography is combined with portraits, interiors and scenes of everyday life, in a less known area and with a different atmosphere from the one that is usually present in reports about Southern Italy, always characterized by the attention to crime and malfeasance.

Traveling along the Southern Apennines path the project will continue in other regions: Basilicata, Campania and Molise, until Abruzzo.

For the week of August 29th - September 4th, Simone will be doing an Instagram takeover from Calabria for the Photolux Festival account.
