In many rural communities, women are at the heart of production and the livelihoods of their families. “Creadoras de Futuro, mujeres rurales, unidas por alimentos sostenibles” is a photographic collection that portrays the essential role of women as guardians of the land and agents of change who contribute to economic and social development. This report celebrates women producers in Ecuador who, from the Pacific coast in the fertile lands of Esmeraldas to the ancestral forests of the Amazon, cultivate not only organic cocoa, coffee, guayusa and bananas, but also hope, equity and empowerment. They are stories of dedication and resilience: mothers, leaders, guardians of biodiversity and defenders of women’s rights. Their work seeks to transform their social conditions and gender inequalities; to protect the natural resources that sustain their productive activity and to challenge the global market challenges, demonstrating that the roots of their work go beyond the material. They are roots of identity, community and dignity. This report, carried out within the framework of the CREA project (Camino a la Reactivación de Ecuador Agroalimentario) co-financed by the European Union, is a tribute to their lives and a call to recognise their role as key agents in the economic and agrifood reactivation of Ecuador. We invite you to take this visual journey and be inspired by the strength and determination of those who, day by day, cultivate a better world.
