November 2016. An aerial view of Accumoli
On August 24th, 2016, a seismic event hits the towns of Amatrice and Accumoli and their numerous villages. 299 people lose their lives in the collapse of hundreds of buildings. Thousands lose their homes. For five years our collective has explored the territory and its people to recount a slow but unstoppable return to life.
“You have witnessed a cyclical time, you have documented these changes through the seasons, the times of agriculture, the school years. From my point of view, “going back” is a very important and “right” approach to documentation. Often after a catastrophic event the spotlights are turned on and then go out, when the emergency is over.” writes Giulia Ticozzi, curator of the project.
Mario Calabresi with Chora Media produced a podcast about the subject.
