After a boom between 2003 and 2008, and a relatively modest but steady rise in the early 2010’s, the call centre sector is now experiencing a severe crisis and many companies are outsourcing services to neighbouring countries, such as Albania, where labour is cheaper. The Italian call centre sector employs more than 80,000 workers, 73% of whom have a regular contract. An average out-bound part-time worker today earns between 350 and 400 Euros a month, plus incentives on sales.
